Still even if they are wrong if they make a fellow angler think, well I'll take that!
The non-burying test is quite interesting though.
To also disprove my 'fish over clear backgrounds' theory, yesterday jogging beside the Dorset Stour I stopped to watch a few chub happily swimming aimlessly over gravel, which if not as light as liquidised bread, isn't dark.
I have the same self fulfilling bait aversion as you, although with me it is pellets rather than boilies. Boilies not being a road I want to go down, but pellets are cheap (well cheapish), easily stored and clean so I wish I could learn to like them.

CliveSidestream Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18114054273307270351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808609956350479846.post-73973500729883709322022-06-05T23:05:34.098+01:002022-06-05T23:05:34.098+01:00Ooops - I used your comment ' They do however ...Ooops - I used your comment ' They do however seem to get a far greater footfall than do I, so maybe 'tis I that is doing it all wrong' to bounce some thoughts about blogging in a recent post. I've just reread that post and it could be read as if I was having a pop, whereas I was actually trying to say 'what really matters is that you/I are/am saying what we want do. As I aged the content became less and less, blanks were dropped, and successes became little more than single line entries, but all were recorded, and still are. It is a shame that blogging was unavailable in my early years, before I took a 30 odd year break away from the bank, because then I was, relatively speaking, far, far more successful, and any successes had to be researched by yours truly, which made it great fun, and exploratory. Only dedicated and thinking anglers were consistently successful with big fish back then, 45 to 55 years ago. There was little of the ever-present glory seeking, and no social media, and I was certainly keeping all my catches very quiet. I stopped fishing very suddenly, in the evening one June 16th, and at the time I was 3/4 the way through writing a book. Still have it somewhere on 5 1/4 inch floppy disk, too dated now to resurrect it though. As with yourself, much of my blogging is for myself, and for my son in the future, should he wish to read it. He does not fish. In my case I'm not sure I have the knowledge to post by topic. Actually I am sure, I don't have! Also the initial and main point of my blog was (and largely still is) to to take the place of various lost paper and Word fishing logs. It is probably important to me that I remain my primary audience, as I think that avoids me getting up myself.
Clive
Sidestream Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18114054273307270351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808609956350479846.post-68758970662056876262020-10-20T08:50:03.021+01:002020-10-20T08:50:03.021+01:00Very interesting. I struggled with Physics at school until it dawned on me that it was just a discipline where 'they' used specific words to label things that are common sense. That revelation just about got me through through my O-level and a lot of what you say above is just that, common sense, but as anglers we like to over think things. So, thanks for taking us back to basics.
Float collecting may be out of vogue based on how much less display space is given over to floats these days, as the modern tackle shop now has to make room for quick release spoddy whoddy tungsten back clips and the like. I fear I still buy/make too many floats, but I'm also into the garden and I buy more packets of seed than I can ever sow ....

CliveSidestream Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18114054273307270351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808609956350479846.post-53025918146798767742018-09-02T16:07:11.426+01:002018-09-02T16:07:11.426+01:00You may be right about the disease: but it was 6 ...You may be right about the disease: but it was 6 years ago now ( have I really been blogging for so long), and I still have regular greenfinches, so all is well.By JAYZShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10019543835999526122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808609956350479846.post-30120198559763528082018-09-02T09:24:19.204+01:002018-09-02T09:24:19.204+01:00sounds like gordon might have trichomoniasis looki...sounds like gordon might have trichomoniasis looking at the photo hes bloated and hanging around the feeders and bird bath, the downside is hele spread it to your other greenfinches,my advice let the hawk take it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02391323905716671513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7808609956350479846.post-43875942879760436852018-04-24T17:59:56.269+01:002018-04-24T17:59:56.269+01:00Great fish

One gets a bit blase about such things, reading the manual often being no more than a last resort. Learning to type quickly and accurately is another area that I ignored, and which now leaves me with having to repeatedly go back and change typos. But it is almost impossible to cast into it without snagging on one of many, many trolleys that have collected there. Hooking a good fish would be futile. Only fished the Warwickshire Avon once myself. Had a barbel, a dozen or more chub, and saw an otter very close up for more than a minute in daylight. Didn't see ANY rubbish.
